Avtar Viewport 2022: Top Cities for Women in India, released recently, presents the most inclusive cities for women in India based on industry inclusion and social inclusion scores. In a weekly series, Diversity Digest presents the various facets of the study, one-of-its-kind research, offering pointers for governments and companies to harness women talent in these places.
The Top Cities for Women in India (TCWI) has ranked the Top 25 cities in India in two categories. One category comprises cities with a population of over a million and the other with a population of less than a million. The study analyzes around 111 cities across regions on different parameters of social and industrial inclusion to arrive at a city inclusion score.
In the category of a population of over a million, the Top 10 Cities are dominated by Southern cities. With Chennai leading the list at the top, the other cities include—Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Coimbatore, and Madurai. Similarly, in the second category, the top 10 has Tiruchirappalli emerging first, followed by Vellore, Erode, Salem, Tiruppur, Puducherry, Mangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, and Belagavi.
When comparing the average scores of each region, the Southern region emerged at the top, followed by the West. While the Southern region scores an average of 46.17, the West scores 41.13.
Kerala emerged on top in the State Averages of City Inclusion Score. Similarly, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka were among the three Southern states in the Top Five States with the highest averages.
Eight Tamil Nadu cities were among the top 10 cities for women in India in both categories. The study indicates that the cities in the state fare comparatively better in liveability.
