Axis Bank has launched a return to work program for women called ‘HouseWorkIsWork’.
The banking organization has launched the program to improve women’s participation in the workforce. In a statement, the bank also said that it is making efforts to spot and nurture talent beyond the templates tried so far.
Media reports quoted Axis Bank President and Head (HR) Rajkamal Vempati as saying, “This is one way of saying that we move beyond the templates and be open to hiring different kinds of people. It is also about the women who have not participated in the workforce. The point to be highlighted is that the urban educated Indian women are not there much in the workforce and this is about getting these women to the workforce.”
The bank also said that the program considers the multiple roles women play in their homes and that it acknowledges the need to provide suitable opportunities for women. It looks at valuing their experience in managing homes instead of looking at them as breaks in their career.
The Best Companies for Women in India (BCWI), a yearly gender analytics exercise by Avtar in association with Seramount, looks at such second career programs as a measure of the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.
At least 90% of the 2021 Top 10 BCWI companies had second career programs for improving their women’s workforce participation.
