The drive to succeed needs the right culture

I am an employee with over five years of work experience. I am happy in my current organization, and I haven’t thought about changing jobs until recently. However, I have been looking for upskilling and challenges in everyday work. I wanted to upgrade my skills and look at a higher learning curve. I have attended several interviews for the same and have three offers from different organizations. They are offering similar compensation and are all among the top. Please let me know how I can make a choice.

A High Learner

Dear High Learner,

While it is great to be a learner and want to improvise on your existing skillset and knowledge, it is also important to know and understand what makes an organization ideal for you.

An ideal organization is replete with opportunities and offers a healthy work culture. Considering that you are with this organization since the beginning, you have been exposed to just one type of workplace. Needless to say, it has been great for you, considering that you are a deeply gratified employee.

Concerning the offers you have received: you are definitely in a flattering position—three offers are everyone’s dream.

Having said that you should measure and see what is the work culture in the prospective organizations. Do they have a scope for you to grow in your career and what are the upskilling options they offer at what level?

If you find your answer to these questions, you have arrived at the right choice.

Here is some help for you—a checklist:

  • The financial health of the organization
  • Brand value
  • Work-life balance
  • Company’s growth
  • Skilling and opportunities
  • Your role and its importance

Consider your offers and your current company on all these factors to make the right decision.
