Shiny Samuel, Senior Director of Learning & Development, Walmart Global Tech, shared the organization’s best practices on inclusion.
The Best of the Best Conference 2022 by Avtar and Seramount held recently witnessed a lineup of plenary, and breakout sessions alongside awards.
One of the speakers, Shiny Samuel, Senior Director of Learning & Development at Walmart Global Tech, discussed their best practices towards inclusion. Shiny’s DEI journey at Walmart started with her quest to understand if everyone at Walmart felt included. In doing so, she learned about the programs and interventions created by Walmart to create an inclusive culture. Walmart conducts refresher training for women employees back from their maternity breaks ensuring their inclusion. Walmart also conducts a back-to-work returnship program for second-career women. So far, their conversion rate has been 90%.
‘Revive’, a program Walmart organizes with the transgender community for 10 to 15 weeks, involves rigorous training. Those completing the training are considered for an opportunity within.
‘Next’ helps women at a mid-management level to get into senior management roles, while ‘EmpowHer’ is for high-potential women to advance their careers within Walmart. Walmart partners with Avtar to make junior-level women career intentional by bringing them as a part of their W-Connect program. Walmart takes pride in carrying out three Associate Resource Groups. These include Women’s Resource Community for women followed by W Care for PWD employees and Pride for LGBTQ+ hiring.
