Both parents will receive equal number of parental leaves in Finland.
Finland has introduced a new family law, which grants at least 160 days of parental leaves for both.
According to the new law, both parents can avail of a daycare subsidy for 160 days or roughly a year each. Apart from these, there is a maternity allowance. They can spend 14 months at home with their children in total. The law also allows for the transference of 63 reference days from one parent to the other, said reports.
The government believes that with this move, the father can be more participative in parenting and that it would also help raise the status of women in the workforce.
Before this initiative, fathers were eligible for only 54 days of paternity leave.
