Over 10% of Fortune 500 Cos have women CEOs

Even as discussions around improving the number of women at the leadership level continue, here is some good news. For the first time, over 10% of Fortune 500 companies now have women CEOs.

The Fortune Magazine’s annual ranking of the United States’ 500 largest corporations, ranked by revenue, is in its 68th year. It is the first time the list has seen so many women-led companies.

Last year the percentage was about 8.8%, added the news reports.

The reports also added that with five new women CEOs of Fortune 500 companies beginning their new roles on January 1, 2023, the percentage has improved to over 10%– with 53 CEOs, according to data from Fortune.

Other news reports have observed that a shakeup in the retail sector has led to a rise in the number of women leaders donning the mantle at the C-suite level.
