Diversity in Formula 1 is close to reality, with nine out of ten teams signing the diversity charter.
F1 champion Lewis Hamilton has stressed the need to sign the charter to bring more underrepresented groups into the sport.
The charter is the brainchild of the commission initiated by Hamilton. It aims to bring more racial groups into the sport. While nine teams have already signed it, one more team is yet to and has stalled the whole process, as per news reports.
News reports quoted him as saying, “We are very close to getting this diversity inclusion charter going and I think it’s still one team, still the same team, is not willing to engage. We’ve gone back and forth to them and for some reason, they don’t want to, but all the other nine teams have which is really encouraging.”
While there is a lot of buzz about the one team stalling the necessary action, Hamilton, who has not divulged the name, said that there was an urgent need to do more to improve diversity in F1.
“I’m doing the most I can; I don’t know what else I can do. I think it’s all of our responsibility to do something,” he was quoted by reports.
