Department of Post tableau captures contemporary women in the workforce

A tableau presented at the parade on Republic Day by the Department of Post captured contemporary society with active women’s participation in the workforce and their empowerment.

The different tableaus paraded in the celebrations on January 26 this year on India’s 73rd Republic Day comprised varied elements and faces of India—social, cultural, and political.

Among them, the tableau by the Department of Post garnered popularity, presenting gender diversity with the image of a postwoman. Another significant element was the exhibition of disability-friendly post offices set up by the department across the country.

The news reports noted that the tableau captured technology and tradition by showcasing the modern-day post woman accompanied by a digital device and the traditional and omnipresent red post boxes. At the back was the model of the oldest post office in India at Kolkata, a symbol of the preservation of a legacy.

The middle part of the display covered the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana introduced by the government as part of the flagship campaign to empower the girl child called Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, with the model of a floating post office in Srinagar.

The department represents a huge step taken to boost financial inclusion in the country. Almost 50% of account holders in the Indian Post Payments Bank and post office savings are women, observed news reports.
