She has found a place in the reputed SFO Aviation Museum and is the first human to make it to the coveted spot! Air India’s pilot Captain Zoya Agarwal, who flew over the North Pole traversing over 15.000 kilometers in a rare feat, has assumed iconic status in international aviation space.
Operating a Boeing 777 aircraft, Zoya led an all-women crew on the flight from San Francisco to Bengaluru in 2021, crossing the North Pole.
News reports quoted her speaking to ANI, saying that it was a dream come true for her as she grew up fantasizing about becoming a pilot. “It’s an honor that the US recognized an Indian woman for their museum… it’s a great moment for me and my country,” ANI quoted her as saying.
The SFO Aviation Museum, which is located at the San Francisco International Airport in the United States, opened to the public first in 1980. San Francisco Aviation Luis A Turpen Aviation museum, which took off to a small start then, has over 150,000 exhibits in it, relating to SFO and commercial aviation. Zoya is also a United Nations spokesperson for gender equality.
Recently, Indian women pilots were in the news as it was revealed that India has more women pilots than the US with them comprising over 12% of the fleet, which is higher than the global average of 5%.
