Britannia Industries has set a target of increasing its women’s workforce to 50% by 2024, according to news reports.
The reports quoted a senior official from the organization, saying that the organization had 41 percent women employees and would increase the strength to 50 percent by the end of next year.
The breakup comprises 15 company-owned manufacturing plants and 35 contract and franchisee units across India having a workforce of over one lakh people. Specifically, the company has around 1400 workers in its Madurai unit, of which 65% are women.
The reports quoted Head of Manufacturing, Owned Factories, Indranil Gupta as saying, “They are more hygienic, and more suitable for these types of jobs– It is an important requirement in food-making facilities.” He added that they were more disciplined compared to male workers.
The company has witnessed the benefits of diversity, like increased efficiency and productivity, while it has also helped reduce attrition.
