Female government servants and single male government servants appointed to the civil services and in posts connected with affairs of the Union could avail up to 730 days of child care leave for taking care of two eldest surviving children up to the age of 18, the Centre has said. These can be availed of in spells in a calendar year.
The Centre told Lok Sabha during the ongoing Monsoon session recently that they are eligible for the CCL under Rule 43-C of the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972, for a maximum period of seven hundred and thirty days during the entire service for taking care of two eldest surviving children up to the age of 18 years. There is no age limit in the case of differently-abled children. Union Minister of State for Personnel, Jitendra Singh, revealed the leave provision in a written statement.
The reports also quoted a 2022 statement by the Ministry of Personnel, that said the leave cannot be availed for more than three spells in a calendar year. But in the case of a single female employee, the CCL shall be extended to six spells in a calendar year instead of three.
