The United States will work closely with Japan to boost gender diversity in science and technology, while the two will partner effectively in improving female economic empowerment.
According to news reports, female economic empowerment will be an important topic discussed next week, when leaders from both countries meet.
The reports quoted Katrina Fotovat, acting ambassador-at-large for global women’s issues, saying that Japan needed to address gender inequalities as it holds the rotating presidency of the Group of Seven this year.
Fotovat said that she was sure that the meeting on January 13 between President of the United State Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Washington would witness discussions around gender equality and economic empowerment. She added that the Biden administration was “hoping to build upon some of our STEM efforts with Japan.”
While the country scores high in education and health, its economic participation and political empowerment are low. Japan ranks 116 in the World Economic Forum gender gap report released recently.
