Swiggy introduces moonlighting policy

Soon after announcing a work-from-anywhere policy for a large segment of roles, food delivery service, Swiggy, has now announced a moonlighting policy for its employees.

There are a few conditions under which the employees can moonlight or take up second jobs. The policy can be availed by full-time employees of Bundl Technologies which also runs the Swiggy app.

According to the release from the company quoted by newspapers, “This could encompass activity outside of office hours or on weekends that does not impact their productivity on the full-time job or have a conflict of interest with Swiggy’s business in any way.”

Acknowledging that the pandemic has led many to discover additional skills and take up other activities and that these have to be encouraged to enable professional and personal development for the employees.

“Be it volunteering with an NGO, working as a dance instructor, or content creation for social media, Swiggy firmly believes that working on such projects outside of one’s full-time employment can significantly contribute to both professional and personal development of an individual,” reports quoted the release as saying.

However, there are strict rules for the employees to follow to avoid inefficiencies or unproductivity. There will be an approval process to ensure that there is no conflict of interest with the duties of the employees.

The gig economy, which is fast picking up in India, is believed to create many such opportunities for those who wish to explore different types of work.
