Need to remove gender disparity: VP Naidu

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu recently stressed the need to remove gender disparity at different levels—socially, economically, politically, and educationally.

Addressing the 38th annual session of FICCI Ladies Organization (FLO) in Delhi recently, Naidu said that the government, the private sector, and civil society must join hands to empower women.

Batting for reservations for women in Parliament and State legislatures, Naidu pointed out that it would have a multiplier effect on women, families, and society. He pointed out that for inclusive growth, special attention has to be given to women, youth, and rural India.

He also cited the success of government schemes like Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and called upon the corporate sector and various NGOs to supplement the efforts of the government in educating girls.

“There should be no discrimination against girls, and every girl child should be made to attend school,” the Vice President added.

Naidu observed that just 14 % of the total 58.5 million entrepreneurs in India are women and highlighted the need for a concerted effort from the industry, government, and society to promote entrepreneurship among women. He also lauded the efforts of FLO in empowering women.
