The World Association of News Publishers has sought more diversity, pointing out to the lopsided representation of women across positions, especially in leadership positions.
The association headquartered in Germany aims to ensure that the press’ essential role in society is understood and respected.
According to the news reports, there are fewer stories about women, and men also outnumber them with bylines and as subject matter experts. The gap is even more visible at the top editorial and non-editorial management positions, with women comprising on average 20% of the top editorial or business management roles in news media around the globe.
As per reports on Moonshot News, WAN-INFRA has sought members to:
- To enable and support gender equality, diversity, and inclusion within the organizations, particularly among leadership positions.
- Bring measures in the organization to promote equality and have safe, healthy, and representative newsrooms.
- To make women alongside underrepresented or vulnerable groups more visible in the media.
