An 18-year-old with a disability is now the face of brands like Burberry and H&M.
Iona Hay was only six when she was diagnosed with a form of bone cancer, and her leg had to be amputated in the course of the treatment.
Iona lost her mother to cancer a year before her diagnosis.
Putting the challenge behind her, Iona is today the face of the fashion brands, according to news reports.
A fashion design student in Edinburgh Scotland, she has also been signed up for the campaign by Schuh, a footwear franchisee.
Iona has told the media that she hoped to inspire others like her to come forward to modelling, rising above challenges. She was quoted by news reports, “I hope other young people can look at the pictures and think they can do anything if they put their mind to it.”
The fashion brands’ decision to include someone with a disability as the face of a brand is a huge step towards inclusion.
