MG Motor India is aiming for 50% women in the workforce by end of 2023, according to news reports.
The automobile manufacturer that has its manufacturing plant in Gujarat and head office at Haryana, at the moment, has 37% women in its workforce, possibly the highest in the industry.
The women are employed in administrative jobs and also on the shop floor.
News reported by the Financial Express quoted Gaurav Gupta, chief commercial officer, MG Motor India, “We started with around 30% women in our workforce pan-India. Today, we are at 37% (which is possibly the highest in the industry),” Gupta said. “Our target is to take it to 50% by end of 2023.”
While the IT/ITES AND BFSI segments have been focusing on the gender-balanced workforce, manufacturing industries have recently stepped up their efforts to boost women’s workforce participation. Piaggio, Ola, etc., have recently amplified their women’s workforce through all-women units.
