Kerala government has announced the ‘Work Near Home’ project to provide job opportunities for homemakers.
Presenting the budget for 2022-23, the State Finance Minister KN Balagopal announced that Rs 50 crore has been allotted for the project.
With work from home continuing at a large scale, he added that the opportunity should be leveraged to make work clusters across the state including smaller towns.
The Minister also stated that the project will see more takers with IT companies and offices distributed.
Remote working and flexible working options have received a massive push during the pandemic. The modules have also made the geographical distribution of offices a possibility.
The acceptance of remote work by organizations is also closely linked to the higher representation of women.
The 2021 Best Companies for Women in India, a yearly gender analytics exercise conducted by Avtar in association with Seramount, found that remote working is offered by 97% of the companies— up by 37% from 2016 among the 100 best. All in the Top 10 BCWI offer remote work.
