Indian Science Congress to discuss women in STEM

The Indian Science Congress (ISC), which will open on January 3, will discuss ways to increase women’s participation in the field of STEM, offering them equal access.

The 108th edition, set to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is taking place after a break of two years due to Covid.

The conference will also discuss women’s empowerment and the role of science and tech in sustainable development, said news reports.

The theme of ISC is “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment’. The congress will highlight the steps required to increase the representation of women in science and technology.

News reports quoted a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), stating that the conference would contemplate and discuss ways to increase the number of women in higher echelons of teaching, research, and industry. “It will also find ways to provide women with equal access to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education, research opportunities, and economic participation,” news reports quoted the statement.
