The G20 Summit Declaration has highlighted the emphasis on women-led development and gender-inclusive climate action. It has reaffirmed that ‘gender equality is of fundamental importance’. It also highlighted that investing in the ‘empowerment of all women and girls has a multiplier effect in implementing the 2030 Agenda’.
Commitments include halving the digital gender gap by 2030, and driving gender-inclusive climate action, said news reports. The G20 countries are also poised to close the gender pay gap and grant women equal access to decent work and quality jobs.
The G20 countries will adopt measures to promote and implement gender-responsive policies. These include initiatives that enable an inclusive and non-discriminatory digital economy for women-led and owned businesses.
The declaration stresses the commitment towards gender equality of girls and women with disabilities.
It reiterates the aim to achieve the Brisbane Goal to reduce the gap in labor force participation. These consist of strategic moves like allowing equal access to affordable, inclusive, equitable, safe and quality education from early childhood through higher education to lifelong learning. The declaration also stresses greater enrolment, participation and leadership of all women and girls, including those with disabilities, in STEM fields and in emerging digital technologies.
