To make its workplace equitable and supportive, Flipkart has announced a period leave policy.
The e-commerce company joins the list of companies like Jaipurkurti.com, Zomato, Grofers, Horses Stable News, Gozoop Online Pvt Ltd, FlyMyBiz, and Culture Machine, granting period leaves to its employees.
The company has said that under the new leave policy, one leave per month can be availed of by the women employees.
Acknowledging the biological differences between genders, the new period leave policy takes the effort to provide a supportive and equitable ecosystem for everyone to bring their best selves to work.
The policy comes into effect from March 1.
Period leaves are a government-backed policy in Indonesia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Zambia. In a first in India, over three years ago, an MP from Arunachal Pradesh tabled The Menstruation Benefit Bill seeking paid menstrual leave in the Lok Sabha.
Period leaves may seem low in the list of priorities for companies trying to boost their women workforce participation through inclusive maternity and leave policies alongside flexible working modules. Experts opine that period leaves work as enabler in a gender-balanced workforce.
