CRPF to have women commandos in VIP security

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will have women commandos offering Z-plus security to VIPs for the first time.

The CRPF’s contingent of women commandos will be on duty for Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife, and the Gandhi family comprising MPs Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, apart from Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. They will be deployed alongside male commandos from the CRPF on January 15, 2022.

As per news reports, the first batch of 32 commandos, who have completed training, will be posted at the residence of the protectees.

The news reports also said that the commandos, who had completed a 10-week training on December 10, were trained in VIP security duties, unarmed combat, body frisking, and special weapons firing.

Since the contingent is small, each VIP will be assigned five or six women commandos. They will not be able to handle proximate security in case of movement and also be roped in for multiple duties like election duties around women protectees if there is a need since a few states will go for polls in early 2022.
