‘Cricket is everyone’s game’

Gone are the days when cricket was touted as a gentleman’s game; it is now ‘everyone’s game’, says a new campaign.

A simple search on the net about Indian cricket captains throws images of players like men’s cricket champions Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya. Why not Harmanpreet Kaur, who is the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team?

Kaur is the most capped player in the T20 format and is an Arjuna awardee. She is the brand ambassador for the global sportswear brand Puma, which aims to break gender-related stereotypes surrounding cricket through the ongoing campaign.

The campaign triggering discussion around Kaur has become a hit on the Internet, as it speaks about the need to break stereotypes with the message, “Cricket is everyone’s game.”

The campaign aims to create Google footprints around Kaur’s achievements that eventually lead to rich conversations about women in sports.

It is a significant effort considering the recent measures taken by the BCCI to ensure pay parity.
