The Council of the EU has adopted new rules for combating pay disparity. According to news reports, the rules mandate EU companies to disclose how much they pay men and women for the same work. If the pay gap exceeds 5 percent, they have to take measures to narrow it, as per the rules.
The reports also claimed that women earn 13% less than men on average in the EU. The pay gap has stagnated over the years now. There are several factors for the disparity. However, pay discrimination is the top barrier preventing gender pay equality.
Companies with more than 250 employees will have to report the details on the gender pay gap in their organizations every year. The smaller companies or those with over 150 employees have to file these reports once in three years.
