Captain Shiva Chauhan of Fire and Fury Sappers has created history by becoming the first woman to be operationally deployed at Siachen Glacier.
On Tuesday, the official Twitter account of Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian army tweeted saying: “Capt Shiva Chauhan of Fire and Fury Sappers became the first woman officer to be operationally deployed in Kumar Post, at the highest battlefield of the world.”
The caption for the picture also stated breaking the glass ceiling, emphasizing the impact the posting will have on women aspiring to make a mark in the field.
The Siachen Glacier is the highest battlefield on earth and has witnessed intermittent battles between India and Pakistan since 1984, said news reports.
Captain Shiva Chauhan has undergone rigorous training for the posting.
