Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) has recently hired seven transpersons, including four forklift operators in its plant at Korba in Chhattisgarh.
The company, which was first incorporated as a public sector undertaking in 1965, hired a group in security positions and has recently placed more transpersons at its set up in Balconagar.
Before the induction, the organization conducted sensitization workshops for all its employees, highlighting the challenges the group faces at the workplace, proper code of conduct, etc. The infrastructure at the setup was reassessed to ensure an inclusive workplace for the transpersons hired.
News reports quoted BALCO CEO and director Abhijit Pati as saying, “Vedanta prides itself on being a merit-first organization, and merit is gender-agnostic. Under the guidance of our Chairman, Anil Agarwal, BALCO is leaving no stone unturned in tapping the potential of India’s human capital. We have welcomed seven transgender members into our family, in a milestone moment along our journey of making our workplace more inclusive and diverse. BALCO is committed to transforming its workplace for the good of the company, our people, and the country at large. We have bolstered our efforts towards introducing a social change by creating an environment of inclusivity, non-discrimination, and equal opportunities for all.”
