Acknowledging the role of a single father, the Haryana Government has recently amended rules to sanction up to two years of childcare leave for those in government service.
News reports said that the draft amendment to Haryana Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 2016, approved at a cabinet meeting last week allowed unmarried, widowers, or divorced fathers to avail of childcare leave during their service period. Government sources added that the decision was in line with Central Government rules.
Like in the case of women employees. the leave can be taken till two children turn 18. In the case of children with disabilities above 18 years of age, the leave can be availed of if the child has a 60 percent impairment and is dependent on the parent.
