12-week paternity leave: Pharma co rolls out progressive policy

Following in the footsteps of companies like Meesho with progressive leave policies, pharma company Pfizer India has rolled out a 12-week paternity policy for  biological and adoptive fathers.

As part of their diversity and inclusion initiatives, the policy comes into effect from January 1, 2023, said news reports.

A statement from the company quoted by news reports said it was a people-centric approach and aimed at ensuring that the male colleagues and their partners cherished their parenting experience.

The organization said that it believed the people-first approach defined progressive workplaces. The organization also added that it was essential to implement such policies to harness the power of equity It is aimed to ‘enable both men and women to invest equal time in essaying their roles and responsibilities as a parent’, said news reports quoting Shilpi Singh, Director – People Experience, Pfizer India, as saying.

The policy allows the employees to utilize the leave over two years in tranches.
